Centenary of Prince Rainier III
To celebrate the hundredth year of the birth of Prince Rainier III, the Principality organizes until January 2024 many events and exhibitions in honor of the "Prince Builder".
Prince Rainier III
Born on May 31, 1923, Prince Rainier is destined to succeed to his grandfather, Prince Louis II. During a reign of more than 55 years, he developed the Principality by being at the origin of major real estate projects including the new districts built on the sea, Fontvieille and Larvotto, which made him earned his nickname of Prince Builder. At the political level, he achieves a new constitution and will remain in the hearts of all Monegasques and residents as the Father of the Nation. Prince Rainier married actress Grace Kelly in 1956; the Principality then benefited from an international reputation and the enthusiasm of foreign customers for Monaco with.

Rainier III Centenary Celebrations
It is therefore natural that for the hundredth anniversary of his birth, Prince Albert II, surrounded by family, organizes celebrations which will take place until January 2024. An anniversary mass has been organized in the Cathedral of Monaco in April 2023, then the tributes will continue. Monegasques and residents were invited on May 31, 2023 to a great festive event on the Rock: children's choir, treasure hunt, various orchestras including the Bagad Salicornes from Brittany with whom the Grimaldi Family is closely linked since the union in 1715 of Princess Louise-Hippolyte Grimaldi of Monaco and Jacques IV, lord of Matignon... We will even note the presence of local artists, including Mr One Teas, graffiti artist who introduces his passion to the youngest...

After a doves release organized by young students of Monaco, Prince Albert II accompanied by his wife Princess Charlene, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, as well as members of his family greeted the Monegasque population aboard his unique collection of vintage cars : Princess Caroline de Hanovre, Andrea Casiraghi and Pierre Casiraghi, their wifes and children, Princess Stephanie de Monaco, Camille Gottlieb, Louis Ducruet… each aboard an exceptional old car. At the end of the day, the country gathered on the Place du Palais for a moment of sharing around a magnificent cake.
Celebrations until January 2024
To pay tribute as it should to the Prince Builder, the Principality is organizing numerous events until winter 2024 which will allow everyone to rediscover this illustrious and charismatic man, Prince Rainier III.
Exhibitions and events are offered, including:
- "The Prince at home", "The Prince and his animals", "Prince Rainier III, a sailor above all": exclusive collections of pictures taken in his offices or during private moments retracing the Sovereign's journey and illustrating his personality and the work of the Prince in often unknown times. These exhibitions can be seen at the Prince's Palace, Yacht Club of Monaco and at the Jardin Animalier.
- Concerts organized by the Monaco Philharmonic Orchestra or by the Music Academy Rainier III will be presented at the Prince's Palace, Grimaldi Forum or at the Auditorium Rainier III.
- Exclusive performances by the Ballets de Monte-Carlo directed by Jean Christophe Maillot, Theatre shows, Chess or Monaco language competitions… various events will celebrate the founding Prince of the Principality as we know it today,
- The festivities will end with the Monaco International Circus Festival, which will dedicate a final tribute to its creator. Passionated about the circus, he created this festival in 1974. This exceptional show is shown on TV every year and shines internationally.
